For Halloween, Tracee Ellis Ross Pays Tribute to This Year’s Biggest Horror Movie

We all know that Tracee Ellis Ross has style in spades. The dramatic, fashion-forward looks the actress and star of ABC’s Black-ish regularly wears on the red carpet—put together with the help of her stylist Karla Welch—speak not only to Ellis Ross’s former career as a fashion editor, but also her innate and impeccable taste. So, when it comes to a Halloween outfit, Ellis Ross knows a thing or two about how to deliver a real moment.

Thankfully, it’s also become something of a tradition that Black-ish’s Halloween episode features the Johnson family dressing up in eerie—and eerily accurate—tributes to the year’s hottest films; from Black Panther last year, to Aladdin this time around. But it seems there’s another outfit Ellis Ross has been keeping up her sleeve for this year’s episode: posting to Instagram earlier today, she revealed a tribute to Lupita Nyong’o’s terrifying, scissor-wielding doppelgänger in Jordan Peele’s cult horror hit Us.

Ross wore the character’s trademark red jumpsuit, cropped hair—along with some very spooky bleached eyebrows—and carried gold toned dressmaking scissors in her fingerless-gloved hand. It was the perfect tribute to Peele and his newfound status as one of the most exciting directors working in horror today. It also served up some excellent Halloween dressing inspiration, right on time for this weekend’s parties—just make sure to be careful with those scissors.
