Kate Middleton’s Take on High-Low Dressing? A $50 Sweater and a Chanel Bag

This morning, Kate Middleton paid a visit to the Natural History Museum in London, arriving to learn more about how the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity is taking action with its wildlife protection efforts. For her latest appearance, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for an ensemble that was, of course, armed with her signature, event-appropriate polish—but she also went for an unusual styling move that was slightly out of character for the royal, choosing to mix both designer and affordable pieces within the same ensemble.

Veering towards accessible ready-to-wear pieces, Middleton wore a burgundy sweater with a scalloped neckline by Warehouse, which retails for $48. Then, she added a high-waisted pair of green culottes by Jigsaw, which are currently on sale for $109: they feature an elasticated waist, pleated seam, and slanted pockets. (Fun fact: the Duchess worked at Jigsaw as an accessories buyer before getting engaged to Prince William.)

Then, for a more high-end touch, the Duchess accessorized her look with a quilted Chanel bag—which matched her knitwear up on top—that featured a striking gold top handle detail. On her feet, she also wore one of her favorite footwear styles: a comfy pump with a sturdy block heel, here by the Italian label Tod’s, featuring a buckle and kiltie detail at the toe. Consider the high-low outfit proof that great wardrobe pieces come at every price point—and look even better when combined.
