Many of the most popular sports today have long histories that date back hundreds, even thousands of years. Sometimes it’s fun to remember how sports used to be decades ago. You know, when basketball shorts were tiny, football helmets were made of leather, and pitchers threw perfect games while tripping on acid (for real though, Google Dock Ellis).
For your next Design Challenge, we want you to make a new piece of art inspired by vintage sports. Interpret this theme however you like. You could draw inspiration from real-life sports or make up your own, like Full-Contact Chess or Bare-Knuckle Baking. Or maybe make a baseball card of a player who never existed, or illustrate the reasons you dislike sports altogether. If you really want to lean into the throwback vibes, consider giving your design a little vintage lovin’. Show its age with sepia tones, light distressing, and a whole lotta mutton chops. Make it sporty and make it retro!
