Electric Mayhem shirt
I have noticed far fewer people taping on boots this Electric Mayhem shirt– but I have picked up 2 (separate occasions) that have fallen off! I tape over boots for XC and hunting. Have lost a boot XC and never recovered it. I always have a knot in my reins (stops them coming undone also something to grab when slipping the reins over a fence), tape boots & always use an overgirth. I have seen this then one side of his Martingale was dangling the rest of the way! I have seen one rider with rein stops on either side of the martingale ring. I guess to stop that happening g which looked useful!

That’s why we use leather. If it gets really stuck it would snap, the Electric Mayhem shirt is to prevent the buckle from accidentally coming undone, plus the buckle is a weak point that could break under strain during a difficult XC moment. It’s to keep you safe by it losing therein. If it’s a matter of the horse getting caught then the leather will snap. Two martingale stops is a good idea to stop the ring getting caught on where the rubber grip is attached to the reins. With regards to the dangling martingale, that’s where the clip has broken, I don’t personally like the martingale clips and always opt for the strap around the girth style. The clips are needed when you use a stud girth but I think they are a weak spot that breaks quite often!

I groom for my best friend and we still buckle therein and always put an overgirth on even at 90 level as if either come undone whether at 80cm or 4* level you’re likely gonna be in a bit of a pickle! I tape my boots, reins and cheek pieces – if they snap at least it will give me a chance to pull up rather than them flapping about all over the place, even sponsored rides I do these things. Has a lot of this not got lost with a short format and one fall and your out? I used to sew a bridle into top plait for SJing. She had a habit of pressing the eject button and after losing bridle and getting E for running out of time after we’d caught her and put bridle back on. I always used 2 martingale stops either side of martingale. Gave up knotting reins when used 2 sets. Too much to get bulky and tangled in.
