Kate Middleton Kicks Off Her Pakistan Tour With a Tribute to Princess Diana

Today, Kate Middleton and Prince William kicked off their tour of Pakistan by touching down at the Pakistani Air Force Base Nur Khan in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, Punjab. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will spend five days touring the country this week. For Day 1, Middleton chose a special look: she wore an ensemble that recalled the late Princess Diana’s visit to Pakistan back in the ’90s.
The Duchess chose an ombré dress by Cathrine Walker, one of her favorite designers, and paired it with matching pants underneath. The ensemble appears to be inspired by the shalwar kameez, a traditional garment in Asia consisting of a tunic worn overtop pants. The look also bore a striking resemblance to the long, light blue button-up top and trouser combo that Princess Diana wore during her Pakistan tour in 1996. Middleton made the outfit her own by adding her signature nude pumps.

It’s not the first time Middleton has paid homage to Prince William’s mother, a style icon in her own right, via fashion: She has worn some of the late princess’s pieces, such as her tear drop earrings, during several red carpet appearances over the years.
