Walkoff mike Moustakas shirt
I don’t get why Familia isn’t getting the love he deserves. Walkoff mike Moustakas shirt. 23 saves out of 25 opportunities. 1.13 ERA. Maybe people just haven’t seen him play but he regularly gives saves of 1.1, 1.2 innings. Lights out kinda guy. He’s got my NL vote, AL goes to Dozier. Because he’s a reliever going up against three starters and a shortstop, all of the big names. He doesn’t stand a chance. If we’re talking career, there’s no way to know until he has more time under his belt. This is his first full season as a closer. However, the ASG is supposed to feature the best players in that particular season, so I’d have to say he’s having a better year than both of them and deserves the spot more. Cueto and Kershaw are both great pitchers, I just don’t think Kershaw has had an ASG worthy season and I think Familia deserves this more than Cueto. Even if you want to say that Familia is having a better year than them, a really good year as a starter is always better than a great year as a reliever.

I mean, by the logic of baseball yes, but not in the logic of the all-star game, which is the best player compared to your position. Official Walkoff mike Moustakas shirt. That’s why it’s voted by position. Great at position A is more deserving than good at position B even if position B is more important. T-shirt design near me. Just going off traditional stats, 2.85 ERA as a starter and 160K’s aren’t all-star worthy? He’s on pace for 300K’s on the year. And almost all the analytical stats put Kershaw in 1st or 2nd among starting pitchers in the NL. His Ks are impressive, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t get over the ERA. If a 2.85 ERA is ASG worthy then I would also argue that Cueto and Martinez are worthy due to their ERA. I think having Kershaw in the game doesn’t benefit the NL as much as having Familia does. Well, he’s currently leading the American League in extra-base hits. Not just leading all second basemen. Leading everyone. He also has a significantly higher OPS than any other second baseman not named Jason Kipnis (who should definitely be starting over Altuve.)

I also think Martinez and Cueto are worthy, and ideally, Bumgarner would have been subbed for one of them (but I understand why he was picked) and the other would take the place of a pitcher who is ineligible because of pitching Sunday. Walkoff mike Moustakas shirt. Alas, just not enough spots for everybody in another year where the NL has so many great pitchers. I would suggest that he potentially isn’t even the best closer in the NL East. Storen is better in just about every statistical category outside of ERA. Familia has a higher bWAR but Storen’s fWAR is higher. I’m not saying that he definitively is better than Familia, but there’s a legit argument that he is. Take away one bad pitch in a 16-1 game against TB and his ERA is 1.13 as well. He’s having a down year for himself, but his stats are still above average for everyone else. He is a victim of his own success.
I see what you’re saying, but just because he’s better than a player that made the team didn’t make him the “obvious” choice. Walkoff mike moustakas shirt. Arguments could be made that Cueto, Martinez, and Familia are better than others who made the team. It’s who’s the most deserving out of the five players, not who is better than people who made it. Because he’s having a better season than anyone else on the NL list and if someone other than Bochy was the NL manager Kershaw easily would have been picked. Sure, Kershaw has the better FIP and K/9 and strikeouts, but Cueto has been better with the walks and has about double the bWAR. Also has 0 wild pitches, which is cool. rWAR is based on runs allowed. fWAR is based on FIP. fWAR also includes a leverage adjustment for relievers so I guess you could say it’s more comprehensive, but that doesn’t matter in this case.
