Sophie Turner’s Emmys Look Is a First for Louis Vuitton

At tonight’s 71st annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, actress Sophie Turner—who’s nominated for Game of Thrones (the most-nominated show this evening)—hit the red carpet in a custom dress designed by Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière. The gown was a floor-length style, in powder-pink satin, with laser-cut perforations on the bustier, which she accessorized with strappy heels in metallic silver. But around Turner’s neck was a piece even more noteworthy: she debuted a new necklace from the French label’s high jewelry collection, the first time a celebrity has worn a piece from the line.

The dazzling piece in question is titled the l’Armure necklace, from Louis Vuitton’s “Riders of the Knights” collection. Made with white gold, 640 diamonds and 305 baguette-cut diamonds, it took over 1,175 hours of work to complete. “The design is inspired by medieval armor,” Louis Vuitton’s jewelry designer Francesca Amfitheatrof told Vogue. “It is a flexible necklace that moves with the body. The round diamonds and custom-cut baguette diamonds accentuate its subtle elegance.” Turner also wore the l’Armure ring from the line as well, mimicking the necklace with the same materials: white gold, 64 diamonds, and 25 baguette-cut diamonds.

Amfitheatrof said that the label wanted to stray from the usually subdued aesthetic of the house’s jewelry line, especially for its big celebrity debut. “I wanted to create a modern piece with a surprising design, which breaks with tradition,” she said. The result gave Turner’s look a special finishing touch that helped make her one of the night’s best-dressed stars.
